SWELT MY ONLY REFLECTION

Bristol/London slowcore quartet Swelt release new single 'My Only Reflection', taken from their upcoming second EP, set for release later this year. Following on from last year's spacious, experimental folk-infused EP Red Mountain, 'My Only Reflection' - produced, mixed and engineered by Euan Hinshelwood (Cate Le Bon, H Hawkline, Younghusband) - is a gently paced, melancholic track that gradually builds into an earthy swell of vocal harmonies, meandering guitar lines and piano. Talking about the single, lead vocalist and songwriter Reuben Brunt shares: "'My Only Reflection' was written at a time when I was exploring the back catalogue of Jason Molina and also watching ‘Get Back’ the documentary, so I think those influences have come through in the music. The themes of the song are around bereavement and personal loss and were written in that context. Performing it can be difficult but also cathartic. It’s probably the most personal song we have written to date.” Swelt are playing this weekend in Sheffield on the 20th and Manchester on the 21st with Lou Terry and Lobby, be sure to check out their incredible live set and follow them for updates on their upcoming EP. -Toby Evans-Jesra
